Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year longlist

Literary awards are not always a guide to what YOU would like, or would have chosen in any given category. However, when it comes to the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel Award, it seems that they choose the books that I would have chosen.

I have read FIVE titles in this year’s longlist and hope to read many more of them.

Here are the links to my reviews for the 5 titles on the longlist that I have read:

Salt Lane” by William Shaw

Snap” by Belinda Bauer

The Chalk Man” by C.J. Tudor

This is How it Ends” by Eva Dolan

Our House” by Louise Candlish

The titles from the longlist that are still patiently waiting on my TBR and that I am particularly looking forward to reading are:

Hell Bay” by Kate Rhodes

Broken Ground” by Val McDermid

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” by Stuart Turton

Take Me In” by Sabine Durrant

How many of these fantastic titles have YOU read?

I have not heard of this award list, but I agree, it looks intriguing. I have read three of them and have about 6 others on my TBR. I am passing on The Seven Deaths as I have read a lot of mixed reviews on that one.

  2. A few are on my TBR list, but The Seven Deaths… really didn’t work for me…Still,a very, very nice list!

Apparently the reason for the different number of deaths in the title is to avoid confusion with another book in the US. I’ve read this one and can see why it still works with both numbers. I certainly think the book is worth reading because it’s so different. But I’m still not sure whether I enjoyed it or not!

  8. I’ve only read one – the Seven Deaths – and it wouldn’t win the award if I was on the panel! I do have quite a few of the others on my shelf yet to read too!
