Books that would cause me to weaken…

In the valiant effort to catch up with my review commitments I have imposed a ‘Request Ban’ on myself.  I am not allowing myself to request ARCs with the abandon I did in earlier years.  It’s hard people – It’s SO HARD. I mean seriously… how can you post a review on NetGalley or Edelweiss and not take a peek at the lovely new titles they have on offer? And if you peek and find one you covet… what then???

In the interest of honesty though, there are some books that I’d lift my self-imposed ban for.  I’d absolutely jump at the chance to get ARCs of the following titles.

Expected publication: June 25th 2019 by Sphere

unknown date – published by Random House

Expected publication: December 10th 2020 by Trapeze

Expected publication: March 7th 2019 by Sphere

AND… I would be sorely tempted by a new title by any of these authors:

Belinda Bauer
Sabine Durrant
William Shaw
Lisa Jewell
Rachel Joyce
Liese O’Halloran Schwarz
Rachel Lynch
Eve Chase
Elly Griffiths
Catherine Burns
Agnes Ravatn
Louise Candlish
Denise Mina
Catriona McPherson
Simone St. James
Iain Reid

etc.

etc.

etc.

How about you? What books would YOU break a request ban for?

I have already broken my ban and it is only 10 days into the new year. But yes, Frederick Backman would definitely make me break a ban as well as too many others to name.

  3. Yup your list is a good start of those to make me break although I confess I haven’t yet read Dervla McTiernan’s book yet…

I feel your pain Fictionophile. I’m whittling down my Netgalley books before asking for more also. Hard to do.🤤🌹🌺

  7. Ooh I didn’t know Clare Mackintosh had a new book due out. Duly noted! I’m not really on a ban but just being strict. I did just request, be approved for and am now reading Mhairi McFarlane’s latest. I’d break a ban for Patrick Gale, Kate Atkinson, Carmel Harrington and Marian Keyes among others!

  9. I can totally understand how those would make you weaken. I’m excited for many of those too! They all sound good!
    Great post 🙂

Your words are funny, clever and so true. Maybe I’ll put a ban on myself too.

  11. Interesting problem to have, Lynne. It is nice you have some favorites which cause you to be tempted.

  12. I second Simone St. James. Iain Reid is another, and at the moment I am trying my best not to weaken for Mary Oliver’s collections. *sigh*

  13. Clare Mackintosh, certainly! Anything by Maggie Stiefvater, Patricia Briggs or Charlaine Harris, Hanya Yanagihara, Patrick Rothfuss…and the list goes on. Lisa Jackson and Lisa Unger. Karin Slaughter. Erin Morgenstern. Margaret Atwood. Stop me now!

I’ve put myself on a ban as well, with the exception of favorite authors/series OR if it’s on a 2019 list OR if a blogger/reader with similar tastes is raving about it. I’m not expecting to be very successful, which is probably self-defeating, but I’m going to try. I’ll cheer you on!!!

Haha I’m on a similar ban… I have to say, I would be sorely tempted by the next in The Invisible Library series. And the new one by the author of The Night Circus… luckily, I don’t think either of those are likely to be offered 😂
